1. Lots of programs running of the computer. Having too many running programs uses up valuable system resources. The reason you may have too many programs running is a lot of programs, when setup, like to feel special and run when your computer boots up so you can access it quickly and easily. The problem is, you may not use the program frequently enough to warrant having it running constantly. You can check how many programs are running a couple different ways.

A: look at the right side of the task bar (where the clock is) and see how many little icons are present. Each icon is a running program. Typically you will have your virus scanner, spyware scanner, a volume icon, etc. Too many of these can slow down your computer.

B: A more accurate way, however, is to press CTRL+SHIFT+ESCAPE and select the ‘Processes’ tab. What you will see is a list of software and windows processes currently running. You will also see how much RAM and processor each is utilizing.

Reno Computer Remedy: Go to Start -> Run and type msconfig. If you’re using Vista/7 and don’t see Run, type msconfig into the search box. When you have the System Configuration window open, go to the Startup tab. This lists all of the software that are set to run when your machine starts up. You can clear the check box next to any of these to stop them from starting with the computer. One other place to check would be to go to Start -> All Programs -> Startup. If there’s anything in this folder it will also start with the computer. You can delete anything you don’t want there as well.

2. Hard Drive Fragmentation. As you use your computer to save documents, surf the web, view photos, install software, etc. your computer is busy opening, closing and saving various files (some you are unaware of). As it does this, it causes what’s known as fragmentation which is files being saved in various places on the hard drive instead of in a systematic order. What ends up happening is when you go to open a file the system has to go looking for that file. Keep in mind that when you go to open a document there’s a lot more going on than just opening that file. With the disk fragmentation, it will take longer for the system to find all the files needed to do various things – in turn, slowing your computer down.

Reno Computer Remedy: Run the disk defragmenter by going to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter. Try not to interrupt the scanner while it’s operating. I recommend running it before you go to sleep, that way it can run while you aren’t using it. Screen savers and standby setting should be disabled. Run Disk Defragmenter once a week to once a month, depending on how much you use your system.

3. Spyware. Although not always malicious in intent, spyware can bog down your computer and breach your privacy. It can be anything from a cookie that monitors your web surfing habits in order to deliver more targeted advertising, or can be something as malicious as a key logger that detects every keystroke you make on your computer with the intent of giving someone else your passwords, credit card numbers, etc. One way or another, you don’t need any of these on your computer.

4. Viruses. They all come in many forms (viruses, trojans, worms, etc.), and you don’t want any of them on your system.

Reno Computer Remedy: I recommend AVG Virus Software. Besides being one of the best Virus removers I’ve found, it’s also FREE. You can find it at http://free.avg.com. Like Search & Destroy, I run this every day while I’m asleep, but once a week will do fine.

5. Registry Errors. The registry stores file locations and configuration settings needed by Windows. Sometimes the registry gets modified incorrectly, causing errors or a slow computer.

6. Not enough RAM. RAM is temporary storage, unlike your hard drive, used by the operating system to load programs and swap files. Once they are no longer needed, they are removed from your RAM. Not enough RAM is a sure way to slow a computer to a crawl.

Reno Computer Remedy: First, see number one. If that doesn’t work, adding RAM is an inexpensive way speed up your computer. http://www.4allmemory.com is a good site for determining what type of RAM you need and has good installation guides.

7. Hard Drive Filling Up. When you hard drive begins to get full you will start noticing your computer slowing down. Check this by going to My Computer -> right click the (C:) and click properties. If you have Windows Vista/7 you will likely see how much free hard drive space you have without going into the properties.

Reno Computer Remedy: Go through your music, picture, video and downloaded files to see if there is anything you can delete to free up space. Also, check your Recycle Bin to be sure it’s empty. Alternatively, adding a second hard drive is always an option.

I’ve been doing digital painting for a surprisingly short amount of time, but thought that since I’ve got around two years under my belt, I might as well voice some thoughts on the subject. I’m only a hobbyist, but I’ve had a tablet for some time and it appears that’s the standard layout for most people.

I started art when I was very young in the sense that I enjoyed writing short stories and loved to try to draw Ren & Stimpy characters. Sadly, I let that die away when I reached high school and never really cared again for art until things came to college.

I found myself so bored in calculus and other studies that I’d draw in my notebook. At some point, I got very addicted to drawing my dreams and yet I couldn’t get color because I didn’t really want to mess with paint in a dorm room.

Anyone who’s been there knows that they don’t take lightly to anyone getting paint all over the furniture and I just knew that’s the kind of person I am. That’s right… my first impulse was that digital art was pretty clean. And I’m no neat-freak in any capacity. My room vacillates from messy to sterile several times a month.

So, going in to digital painting, my inspirations were people who did a lot of concept art and also landscapes. Some artists avoid stroke work and try to be purely realistic but I especially think the joy comes out when you can blend things fairly well.

It’s an entirely different thing when you print your work out, but I prefer to keep it all digital when possible. Still, it’s amazingly fun to look back from digital painting and smile and say to a traditionalist “Hey, does your oil paint have an Undo? My media does.

The auction house in Warcraft is a place where a lot of gold can be gained and lost very quickly. The reason for this is that, like all real life markets, the individual prices for an item at the auction house fluctuates all the time. Borean leather is 1g a piece one day, and 2g a piece the next

In short, it’s the variations in price that offer you the possibility of making gold. The in game NPC vendors do not offer variable price. Sure they offer a fair price for your “white” loot, but if you have uncommon items or better, then you are often missing a profit opportunity if you just vendor them.

Playing the market in the auction house requires that you first do some research, and collect some data. You need to know if a bargain is as good as it seems, or if you could get more profit for the items you are selling.

To start with download the auctioneer add-on. Once installed, this tool will run a full scan of the auction house at the press of a button. Collecting the price for every item it finds and storing it. Early in the game just run the scan and get on with powerleveling, don’t bother playing the market yet

Run the scan once a day, or perhaps once every two days to avoid double counting certain 48 hour auctions. It might be awhile until you have enough data to make a decent average.

The scans will have recorded each item at auction and given them an average asking price. You will see a percentage next to each item now in the auction GUI. This percentage is a ratio of the average price Auctioneer found when it scanned. So 80% is 20% below the average asking price. 120% is 20% above

Using this information, you can make decisions on which items to trade in. Following the simple real-world rule of buy low, sell high.

But I should mention some big shortcomings with Auctioneer.

As I mentioned above, it records the asking price. Not the selling price, it doesn’t even know whether the item sold at all. People can ask whatever price they want at auction. If you’ve seen a piece of wool cloth or similar on for 10,000g (it happens all the time) then this figure will massively increase the average that Auctioneer thinks Wool cloth is worth. It won’t have sold of course (at least not to someone who was keeping within the ToS and actually wanted it) People do this to either move vast amount of gold around, or in the hope that someone accidentally clicks on the item and buys it. The result is the same. Auctioneer’s average asking price gets completely skewed with rogue data.

Another issue is the fact that the game changes all the time. Items are useful, and then a patch is issued that makes them worthless. Perhaps they were part of a crafting recipe that is no longer the best available. Or the stats for an item have been changed. Blizzard increase and decrease drop rates for items all the time. In a matter of days rare items become common and worth far less, or the opposite can happen. Auctioneer will not tell you this. If you have invested heavily in one or two items, a patch can wipe out loads of your profit of you don’t know what’s coming up

However, to start with auctioneer is a great tool. Install it and run the scan. It certainly isn’t the be-all-and-end-all tool for making gold in Warcraft, but it is a tool that, used properly and knowing the pitfalls, can help you along the way to becoming a World of Warcraft Gold Generator.

You should always choose the race you play with care in Warcraft, some decisions are not immediately apparent. For instance, it may not be until level 20 that you start to think about the mount that your race has as standard. You will get a letter from your trainer inviting you to learn the basics.

The apprentice level mount in Warcraft makes travelling 60% faster, speeding up leveling and questing as a result. But what if you don’t like your races’ mount?

Underneath, all mounts have exactly the same function, but some are just more appealing to players than others. The Night Elf sabre mount and the Orc Wolves are particularly popular, perhaps for the same reason that people keep cats and dogs as pets.

Firstly, you can’t own a mount from the other faction. Alliance characters cannot have a Horde mount and vice versa. The good news is you can have any mount from your own faction.

Assuming the mount you want is from your faction, the condition you need to meet is to be exalted with the race whose mount it is. Outside of PvP there are two standard ways of going about this.

The cheapest way is to do all the quests you can find for that faction. If you are level 20 or higher, go to the starting zone for the faction whose mount you want and complete all the easy quests. They won’t give you a lot of experience (if any) but they will yield plenty of faction reputation.

Secondly, at level 40, find the quartermaster for the faction whose mount you want. He will begin a quest chain that involves handing in cloth. Lots and lots of cloth. Each bundle brings with it reputation for you.

Keep going, until you get exalted status, then off to the mount trainer for that race and they will let you train and buy their mount. Good luck

The recent news from Blizzard about the increased importance of guilds in came has bought some other great new features to the forefront.

Most aspects of WoW progression are regularly tweaked by Blizzard. It’s good to see that guilds are finally getting some much needed love.

These changes affect the whole way guilds operate, and for that matter co-operate. And frankly it’s fantastic news.

On logging in after patch 4.0, the first thing you might notice is the new guild GUI. The old style guild communication is gone; this is a whole new system. A screen showing your guild achievements through the various instances is displayed, along with the new achievement point total. Yes guilds now have guild achievement points.

Guilds such as WoW Relentless and WoW Defiance will start to see the legendaries that they have managed to achieve are now displayed prominently in their guild tab, along with a guild news ticker (an in guild CSS feed) that will show all member the results of raids and events. Right down to individual loots and level ups.

I don’t know about your guild, but in mine we have a small guild tax after each raid. It goes in the guild bank and is used for lower level members to get repairs or buy potions. It’s a fair system, but it’s still irksome. Well, know that will change. Guild talent points can be spent on “loot bonus” that will invisibly add a certain percentage to anything you loot, but transfer this extra straight to the guild bank.

Lastly, professions are having a nice extra. You will be able to link directly into guild members professions (right down to the item level if that member is on line) No need to shout “Can someone link me Enchanting”, just check your guild tab and see who your enchanters are.

There are achievements for having all professions maxxed. It is thought that these achievements will tally up and earn you the new “guild talents” All this adds up to good news for the player. It means Blizzard is taking social gaming seriously, and looking to make sure professions stay relevant. Both important issues if WoW’s ascent is to be maintained.

The days of gold guides for Warcraft are numbered. The times of referring to a book to tell you what to do in the game to make gold are coming to an end.

It can’t just be me. The idea of reading a PDF document while trying to enjoy a game is not what I’m after. It seems so old fashioned. Wiping mobs one minute, then clicking off screen to see where a particular node is to farm the next. Maybe running a two line macro you cut and pasted at the auction house. That’s not what I want or expect when someone tells me they have a “gold making system”.

The term “guide” tells it’s own sorry story. A guide isn’t proactive, it just points you in the right direction. If you are hiking down the Amazon basin, a guide is useful, but it’s not going to do the hard yards for you is it?

Don’t get me wrong, a guide is useful, but it doesn’t really do the job for you does it? A guide just, well, guides you.

Then there are the guides that call themselves “systems”. Have you seen these? A system is a procedure you follow, using tools provided to achieve a result. Ok, fine, well the system in these guides seems to be;

1 – Please follow the guide provided.

2 – What are you doing here? Get back to the guide!

If it’s auction house domination you are after then the guys at Norganna.org have got that covered. Norganna has a complete run-down of the whole auctioneer system. He even has his own Wiki. I have every guide I could find on the net and none (and I mean absolutely none what-so-ever) have the amount of good auctioneer information that Norganna has. Period. That shouldn’t suprise you. He wrote the application.

You want to know all about the auctioneer add-on? Go to Norganna.org. This guy wrote the add-on. He even has his own Wiki. Pages and pages of advice on how to use it, and guess what. It’s all free! No guide goes into the depth that Norganna does.

Macros? Ok go to Wowwiki. They have hundreds of cut and paste macros covering every aspect of play. You copy, then (guess what) you paste. And, well that’s it. Job done. Auction house macros are all there, they are all free. You bought a guide for auction house domination? Man you must feel sick. That’s all free information you just paid for.

What Warcraft needs is a real system. Something where you press a button, and the inner workings of your servers’ economy gets ripped open.

Legal, safe and totally conforming to Blizzards terms and conditions. So simple a child could do it.

Let’s take a first look at what is happening “under the hood” of the first Warcraft movie. Many of the outline details are now available, so let’s see what we can expect.

Sam Raimi, the director of Evil Dead and Scream is to direct the movie. He is a keen Warcraft “follower” apparently, and is keen for the movie to keep to the lore of Warcraft. This shows how seriously this movie is being taken. Other film game tie-ins often have unknown or niche directors. Warcraft the movie is going to be a major product.

It is being written by Robert Rodat, He of “Saving Private Ryan” fame. Looking through Robert’s resume, it seems that action will play a very large part in the movie. However expect some pretty moving personal moments as well. Ryan was a rollercoaster of emotions. Fear and frustration (the stabbing scene while his buddy whimpered on the stairs still drives me mad today).

The location for most scenes is likely to be New Zealand. Again, the precedent is set with films like Lord of the Rings showing that this spectacular landscape can certainly become a realistic fantasy backdrop. It’s not difficult to imagine an “Azerothian” feel.

The earliest possible release is late 2011. That’s almost two years time. It is far more likely however that the film will be out in 2012. Why? Because this reviewer feels that whatever the expansion after Cataclysm is, it will be out in late 2012. My betting the two will be released together, and there will be a synergy between them. Expect Lore to be advanced and concepts inter-changed between the film and whatever the fourth expansion turns out to be.

With the director and writer in place we can expect an action based movie to be the result. LotR was a quest movie with action in it. Warcraft will be an action movie with some quest and plot advancement in it. That’s speculation for now, but with the pedigree of the writer and director (not to mention the production company) it seems far more likely that we will see a lot of hack and slash (and whizz and puff for the magic users out there)

So far no names have been mooted for the leading role (or roles). It is unlikely that the film’s producers have even got around to deciding themselves yet

On that note, perhaps the best news as far as I’m concerned is that the production company is Legendary Pictures (Batman Begins, 300) With a pedigree like that I expect to be blown away by the new Warcraft movie.
